Scientists have long been aware of the Earth’s extreme temperature variations, with the last major ice age ending about 10,000 years ago. However, in 1824 Jean- Baptiste Fourier discovered a global warming (or greenhouse) effect and, in1861, the Irish physicist John Tyndall carried out key research on carbon dioxide (CO2) and heat absorption. In April 2009 timber prices had fallen 28% year-on-year, the biggest price decline in the last decade. Billionaire investor George Soros is officially going green! The Hungarian-born U.S. investor announced his intention to invest $1 billion in clean energy technology as in an effort to combat climate change.
Furthermore, Soros will commit to the foundation and funding of a new climate policy initiative with $10 million a year for the next decade saying:
The science is clear, what is less clear is whether world leaders will demonstrate the political will necessary to solve the problem,

With George Soro’s hat firmly in the ‘green investment’ ring, his announcement is a seal of approval that the green investment sector is one to watch for the future. Given that Soros is already invested in the carbon market, may be motivation enough to increase global green awareness if not to encourage an upward movement in the price of carbon!

Annex 1 Countries: These are the industrialised countries that have been set emissions targets under the Kyoto Protocol.
Non-Annex I Countries: Those developing countries without a binding GHG emissions reduction commitment under the Kyoto Protocol. Non-Annex I countries are expected to receive technology transfer and financial assistance from Annex II countries to help them achieve emissions reductions in the absence of a binding commitment.
